IWMSconnect recently reported a set of big bets in the IWMS space for 2010. Here is an exerpt from their report:
2009 was a notably progressive year for IWMS technology. Traditional IWMS application capabilities (i.e., lease administration, project management, space management, and facilities management) have evolved as implicit technology offerings by most leading IWMS vendors. The focus, as noted below in the 2010 IWMS Big Bets, now stresses advanced IWMS application capabilities and presents an expanded menu of transformative opportunities for workplace executives to deliver, if not drive, enterprise value.
2010 IWMS Big Bets
• Cloud computing, as an emerging technology service delivery model, will increasingly influence the how IWMS technology is absorbed and consumed
• Predictive performance management, understood as the intersection of strategic planning and performance management, will strengthen as an executive workplace technology mandate
• Workplace mobility will continue to drive demand for advanced IWMS mobile technology capabilities
• Enterprise sustainability, as a workplace IT priority, will continue to be driven by supply side technology advancements
• IWMS vendor landscape will be strengthened by emerging technology providers, restructurings and isolated failures
• Increased parity between ‘leader’ and ‘challenger’ IWMS vendor capabilities will continue
These trends remind us that workplace IT is highly dynamic and innovations are sourced by both supply and demand side influences. Furthermore, these trends impress the need for workplace executives to
• Maintain a working perspective for how these advancements could influence their workplace IT strategy
• Align these advancements to other enterprise initiatives, most notable within IT, Finance and HR
• Communicate these advancements to workplace program managers to help foster and reconcile opportunity for innovation
• Periodically press incumbent and prospective IWMS vendors for their plans to adapt their application capabilities to the latest market trends
• Engage service partners who leverage broader market awareness to help inform functional and technical service delivery
The outlook for IWMS technology in 2010 is fundamentally strong and, based on the 2010 IWMS Big Bets noted above, conditions favor growth and innovation in the year ahead. Additionally, as the strategic and operational value associated with maintaining a high performing corporate workplace function increase, IWMS will continues to deliver a well qualified investment for many of today’s leading organizations.
